Product Locator - February 04
One of the biggest frustrations customers face in a retail store, and particularly in larger outlets, is not being able to find a specific item. QCL are pleased to announce the release of a new product locator application.
This solution allows customers to find specific products upon arrival in store. A customer can type in the name, description or manufacturer of an item and the system will perform a search. All matching products that are found will be shown in a list. Upon identifying the appropriate product, a map of the store will be presented with basic directions to tell the customer where the item is located.
The QCL product locator application can run on a customer facing self-service device such as a kiosk or PC reducing the need for staff assistance. Should an item not be in stock at a particular location, a customer could order the item for home delivery or collection from store.
The system can also be dynamic to allow for store layout changes or the movement of the product locator hardware.
This product locator application is the latest development of the already comprehensive QCL content management system. This solution provides functionality that includes the remote management of the hardware and software including its distribution.
Other QCL solutions include plasma display advertising, secure internet browser, and various self service interfaces.
Secure Internet Browser - February 04
QCL have developed a secure internet browser that allows organisations to control access to the internet.
This browser is ideal for use by retailers who wish to provide customers with secure access to the web within the store environment. It provides the retailer with the ability to control what a user can access from an internet PC or terminal.
All the system configuration files can be stored on a central server to provide remote management of the Internet settings.
QCL also provide the ability to restrict certain keyboard functions (when present) to prevent unauthorised users effecting system changes.
The only way to change settings locally is to click a hidden button that resides within the secure browser. When clicked this button presents a pin pad. To gain access to the local system settings a user must enter the correct code. Without the correct code access to the PC settings and desktop is not possible.
QCL can supply a design resource to develop and produce an initial homepage for the internet access device along with a menu page. The menu page could allow users to navigate through to more than just one URL.
These menu and home pages can reside on a central server alongside the internet configuration files. This enables a retailer or third party to perform remote updates and system changes.
This remote management solution is ideal for making system changes without the need to send a CD or Engineer to each site. QCL can perform this remote management or empower the retailer to manage the system.
So if providing customers with access to the internet is of interest to you, then QCL have a browser that can be configured to meet your requirements. It gives you the ability to tailor what customers can browse, access and purchase, remotely.
This is a robust, scalable product and is in use by some major UK retail stores.
Digital Signage - December 03
Digital signage is an effective way of driving sales and marketing new products and services through dynamic presentations.
This new solution presents retailers with the opportunity to manage, create and target adverts and or promotions at customers in a particular store or region.
A retailer, reducing the need for third party assistance and associated costs, can manage the content from a central location.
A Retailer can use their staff to create, edit, and update the content remotely. The employee would then schedule the content to appear instantly or at a specific time in a particular location. Information and content could be targeted at specific stores, individual screens, interactive kiosks or geographic regions.
The QCL solution uses a back office system that provides centralized management of the content and schedules its distribution.
The technology behind digital signage is really quite simple. Content is created centrally and then automatically distributed to the on-site screens.
Once the information is on-site the media displays the content on the screens as per a pre-established schedule. The images can be of the highest quality and everything is secure.
